Moana Makes a Splash at the Disney Store, and Celebrating 3 Years of Tsum Tsums!

In anticipation of cute Japan-ized Moana products, I've been visiting the Disney store practically every week! Unfortunately for now, Moana is limited to tsum tsums and a few other items that seem to be the same as products back in America, but I have faith if I wait a little longer I'll be rewarded with some awesome products! Meanwhile can we talk about how stinking cute little Pua tsum tsum is?! He should have gotten more screen time!

Had to snatch up a Pua and Hei Hei tsum tsum!

In the meantime, there's plenty of other activity going on here at the Disney store in Japan. This year commemorates 3 successful years of Tsum Tsums, which have exploded into popularity all over the world thanks to their adorable pill-shaped bodies and simplified features. Case in point, you can even buy them at Target back home in the U.S. However Japan still reigns king of Tsum Tsums, and not just because they have their own super-popular mobile game, but because they regular have special edition tsum tsums year round, forcing you to give in to their charm to empty your wallet and collect them all!

UniBearsity tsum tsums, Alice in Wonderland collection

There are a lot of special tsum tsums right now! One of the first is this UniBearsity line dressed as characters from Alice in Woderland.

Even though there haven't been a ton of new Disney movies released, Disney keeps finding ways to reinvent new tsum tsums, like this special set of Frozen trolls. Seriously, they created a tsum tsum set from literally one scene in the movie. No wonder they make so much money.

On the more inventive side is this vintage collection of retro Minnie Mouse looks through the ages, even back to the times of black and white! You can tell even on the oversimplified features of tsum tsums how much her facial style has evolved over time.

Tsum tsums based on the style of Mickey and Minnie from the good 'ol days

You can see how Minnie's face and fashion evolved from "old style" to "new style" through the years from 1928-present.

Sadly Minnie did not always enjoy the wonderful fashion of shoes!

Minnie can't seem to decide between red, blue, and pink!
And just to remind us to save more money in our wallets, a well-placed advertisement for a special Easter series of tsum tsums on its way March 17th. Darn it. Now I have to set some money aside for these.

Recently a little thing called "neko no hi" (cat day) happened in Japan on February 22nd, since the date can be written 2/22 which sounds like "meow meow meow" if you say the numbers a certain way. Disney was well prepared to take advantage of people's love of cats with its collection of Disney felines, from the Aristocats, Alice in Wonderland, and Pinocchio.

Aristocats celebrate "neko no hi"!

Small keychains students everywhere attach to their bags are hugely popular, but don't let their size deceive you  they still go for around 10 smackaroos!

All your favorite Aristocats!

There are also stationary items, mobile phone accessories and cell phone covers, and even more plushies!

Even more cats!

Thanks to cat day you can find some lesser known characters like Figaro from Pinocchio and Mochi from Big Hero 6.

Marie and Figaro will ensure you never lose your keys again with these handy magnets. Their tails are at your service!

You'll probably be mesmerized by these key chains and mobile phone cases, wasting hours playing with their dangling tails.

This pretty pink dress features one of the most popular Disney characters in Japan, Marie from Aristocats.

These are really cute mirrors and photo frames! I was tempted.

There is also a new "Spring Forest" collection, featuring cute animals waking up from their slumber and basking in the warm sun as flowers bloom around them. Bambi looks so sweet!

Bambi and Pooh look so peaceful!
Offered as a special deal a little while ago was this Pooh wearing an adorable honey bee suit.

Hand towels are popular items due to the lack of paper towels or hand-drying machines in public restrooms. You can choose from your favorite fruit with a Disney character, Minnie, Marie, Pooh - and Bianca from The Rescuers! She's actually somewhat popular here.

You can add some bling to your bag with these new princess key chains.

Japan is just as excited about the upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie as we are! They have a new line of Belle and Beast inspired buttons.

Don't forget to spice up your kitchen, too! These forks with Mickey heads on them are really cute.

Disney-fy your utensils!
If you can't decide between spending your hard-earned money on a cute plushie or speakers, you can do them both! Next to them, Baymax functions as a stand for your smartphone, pens, or glasses. And also it's just cute.

These pretty little boxes look like jewelry boxes, but are actually full of tiny memo pads! Of course once you've used those up you can use it to store your jewelry, too, so win-win.

I couldn't resist playing with this Stitch! He talks when you press his paw. I think it's probably a direct import from America, cause he spoke English.

Talking Stitch! Don't worry, he still speaks English.
These are always being sold near the registers at Disney store, but I've never mentioned them! They are small prepackaged hard candies with the images of your favorite characters on them. The Chip n' Dale peanut butter flavored ones sound good!

These actually aren't new but they are so adorable! Tsum tsum Mickey and broom from Fantasia. You can pop them out of the holes in sorcerer's hat.

Another promotion for Easter is this Mickey and Minnie set! You can get a discount on them if you spend a certain amount at the store, like the Honey Pooh bear.

Easter Minnie and Mickey dolls

I will definitely make a final trip to the Disney store before leaving Japan, so I'll probably post again! I want those Easter tsum tsums, you know...And I'm certain Moana will debut more products soon!
