Josh D'Amaro checks out blueprints for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad

While Disneyland California continues to be shut down due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Disneyland imagineers are using this time to make many exciting park updates, including Disneyland coming attractions. Earlier in August 2020, the titular Splash Mountain song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah was removed from the park, and a complete revamp is underway to convert the beloved ride to the theme of The Princess and the Frog.

Meanwhile, an additional attraction to Mickey's Toontown, "Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway" is set to debut in 2022. The attraction first opened at Walt Disney World Hollywood Studios on March 4, 2020, and, similar to the new "Rise of the Resistance" at Galaxy's Edge, features a trackless ride. Riders board underground railroad cars on Goofy's train and are transported straight into the cartoon of Perfect Picnic.

The ride makes use of high-def screens that feature scenes of Mickey and friends characters using new "2 and 1/2 D" technology which uses projection mapping to make 2D environments look 3D without the use of 3D glasses. For Hidden Mickey enthusiasts, you'll find more here than on any other ride!

Across the way at California Adventure Park, there are other Disneyland coming attractions to look forward to, and the Disney team is hard at work getting the new Avengers Campus ready to open, which was originally slated to open this summer.

It will feature a "Heroic Encounter" with Spider-Man, Iron Man's Jukebox, "Mission Control" Heroic Encounter facility, Pym Test Kitchen and Avengers Canteen Service, and the original ride "Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure" in addition to the current attraction "Guardian's of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout."

Proof that construction is underway at Avengers Campus

Besides these exciting Disneyland coming attractions, in other news, classic rides including Gadget's Go Coaster, Haunted Mansion, King Arthur Carousel, Snow White's Scary Adventures, and Red Car Trolley are currently being refurbished.

Although Disneyland currently continues to be closed, there is hope as Orange County has been removed from the watch list. The Downtown Disney district began phased reopening in July and continues safe operations.
